Québec’s Chavez Young, Sussex County’s Rob Hensey Earn Weekly Awards

AVON, OH – For the second time this season, the first-place Québec Capitales earned a Player of the Week Award. Outfielder Chavez Young slashed .571/.655/.857 to claim the honor this week. Meanwhile, left-handed pitcher Rob Hensey pitched 14 shutout innings across two starts for the Sussex County Miners to earn the Pitcher of the Week Award.

Québec Capitales outfielder Chavez Young reached base four times in each of his team’s three games against the Brockton Rox. Young began his week with a perfect day at the plate, going 4-for-4 with two doubles and a steal on Tuesday. Young collected two more hits on Wednesday, along with a walk and a hit-by-pitch. In the series finale, Young drew two more hit-by-pitches and tallied two hits.

In the Capitales’ final series before the All-Star break, Young — an All-Star himself — hit his first home run of the week in a Friday loss to the Trois-Rivières Aigles. Young picked up hits in each of Québec’s final two games of the series, both wins. He finished the week with three doubles, a home run, eight RBI, and three stolen bases.

Young is in his first season with the Frontier League. He joined the Capitales after spending parts of the previous two seasons with the American Association’s Lake County DockHounds and Kane County Cougars. Young spent parts of eight seasons playing Minor League Baseball for three different organizations. He also played for Team Great Britain in the 2023 World Baseball Classic.

Sussex County Miners left-handed pitcher Rob Hensey started on Tuesday, pitching a complete game shutout in a 6-0 win against the Lake Erie Crushers. He conceded two hits and one walk while striking out five in the contest. Hensey got the ball again on Sunday, going five shutout innings against the Evansville Otters. Hensey totaled eight strikeouts in the win, giving him a league-leading 80 on the season.

The Miners have now won Hensey’s last six starts and are 8-4 overall when he pitches this season. He’s allowed three or fewer earned runs in ten of his 12 starts, leads the league in innings pitched (73.2), and ranks second in wins (7). Hensey is the first Miner to be named Pitcher of the Week since Tyler Thornton took home the award in Week 13 of 2025.

Hensey was recently named an All-Star, an honor he’s now earned in each of his first two seasons in the Frontier League. Before joining Sussex County, Hensey last pitched within the Cincinnati Reds organization. The left-hander made it as high as the Single-A Dayton Dragons in 2023. The Reds selected Hensey in the 9th round of the 2022 MLB Draft out of Monmouth University.
